When a Filing Season Review is enough — and when it is not

· 5 min read

Clients sometimes book a Filing Season Review hoping it will fix a chaotic folder of unmerged CSVs. That session is the wrong tool for that job.

Review is enough when

  • You already have a chronological transaction summary
  • Disposal rows carry tentative cost basis or clear open markers
  • You mainly need inconsistency checks before meeting a preparer

Choose another session when

  • Venue files have never been merged — start with Transaction Summary Planning
  • Most basis cells are empty — ask about Cost Basis Reconstruction
  • You have never produced an estimate worksheet — book the Desktop Tax Estimate Session

Timing

Reviews work best one to three weeks before your preparer meeting. Same-week rushes are possible but leave little room if the review uncovers a rebuild. Read the estimate guide and pick the path that matches your folder, not the shortest name on the menu.
